People trust us with their time and their opinions. We take that seriously. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep, why, and how you stay in control. If anything is unclear, write to us and a real person will reply.
Probe Research looks after the information collected in studies run on Probe and the details of people who have a Probe account. In legal terms, we are the data controller.
Study answers are used to run the study, pay participants, and give the team behind the study a summary of what people said. Account details are used to run your account, send invoices, and get in touch about your account. We never sell your data.
The legal basis for study data is our legitimate interest in running research that people have asked for. For account data, it is our agreement with you to provide the service.
On our public pages we count which pages are opened and which buttons get clicked. This uses no cookies and doesn't tell us who you are. On the page where you can try Probe without an account, we also keep the question you type to start a study. It helps us understand what people want to learn so we can make Probe more useful. We automatically remove email addresses and phone numbers before saving it, but please leave out anything personal when you type there.
We use a few essential cookies to keep you signed in. Without them the app wouldn't work.
On our marketing pages only (never on study pages and never inside the app) we may also use advertising cookies from Reddit and LinkedIn. They tell those platforms which of our pages you visited and whether you created an account or booked a demo, so we can see which ads are worth running. They never receive your name or email.
In the UK, the EU/EEA and Switzerland, these cookies stay off unless you say yes in our cookie banner. Elsewhere they are on by default, and we respect the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser. We keep a simple record of your choice (a random ID, your choice, the version of this notice, your country and the time). You can change your mind whenever you like in . Once you say no, nothing more is sent.
For surveys, teams running studies only see answers that can't be traced back to you, plus summaries. For video interviews, the researcher sees and hears the participant during the call and can watch and download the recording afterwards. Participants agree to recording before the call starts. To run Probe we rely on a small group of trusted providers: Supabase (hosting and storage), Stripe (payments), Prolific (finding participants), our video calling and transcription providers, and the providers that help us summarise and analyse responses. If you agree to advertising cookies, Reddit and LinkedIn receive the limited details described above.
Some of these providers are based in the United States. When data travels there, it is protected by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK-US Data Bridge where the provider is certified.
We keep study data while the workspace is active, plus 12 months in case we need to check a payment or answer a question. Interview video recordings are deleted automatically 90 days after the study closes; transcripts follow the study data. If a participant withdraws, we delete their recording and transcript. You can ask us to delete anything sooner.
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Just email privacy@askprobe.com and we'll help. If something's not right, please tell us first so we can fix it. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
